Be thankful for the founders and the colonies who showed great bravery and resolve, giving every posession for their freedom and ours.

According to George Washington it was "interpositions of Providence" that led to the success of the Revolution.  Washington knew that had God not intervened, through nature and man, that the Revolution would have been squelched early on.

In his final address to the army after the Revolution, Washington's hand which held his speech shook as his voice almost stopped. As he prasied his aides and military family he tightly grasped his speech with both hands. Robert Middlekauf writes, in Washington's Revolution, that his deepest feeling in the speech emerged as he commended, "the Interest of our dearest Country to the protection of Almighty God, and those who have superintendence of them, to his holy keeping."

We can follow Washington in this prayer and commendation. All the world is God's. Our nation is at the mercy of his will and providence. Thank God for every good thing we have in our nation. We have many good things! Pray that God's kingdom come and his will be done. "There is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God" (Rom 13:1).
