God's Plan of Redemption Through Christmas
In our minds Christmas is an event that happens at the same time every year. Although, maybe we would say it is starting earlier and earlier each year. But we would also say that Christmas is an event which happened 2000+ years ago when Christ was born. We often struggle to connect our Christmas each year with that Christmas 2000 years ago. But Christmas, so as much as it is about the birth of Christ, is actually part of the grand plan of God which is what brought together the fullness of time!
When Christ was born a time was fulfilled. Paul says it this way in Galatians, “When the fullness of time had come, God sent for his son, born of a woman…” (Gal 4:4). Likewise in Ephesians Paul speaks of Jesus saying that God, “Set forth Christ as a plan for the fulness of time” (Eph 1:10).
In Christ the purpose of time and all creation has come to earth. Christmas is not about an event each year. It is not only about an event 2000+ years ago. It is about birth of the one who binds together all other events in time — the mission of God to redeem his creation and a people.
