We make room.
We make room in our budgets for gifts. We make room in our living rooms for Christmas trees. We make room on the mantle for the nutcracker. We make room in our schedules for parties and movies. We make room in our yards for reindeer and snowmen. We make room. We make room in our lives for Christmas every year.
Is there room for Christ in our hearts? That was the prayer for a church many years ago.
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Its funny, when Joseph and Mary arrived in Bethlehem there was no room for them. No room for Jesus. So God’s son was born in a stable. But Christ was not making this earth his home. The world makes no more room for him now than on that starry night in Bethlehem. But he has room here. He dwells now, through the Spirit, in the hearts of those who believe.
Join us at Milwood for Advent Season as we make room for Christ in our hearts to find Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. May God grant us power through His Spirit, according to the riches of his glory, so Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. God, help us make room.
